The Myndlistarlög 2012, No. 64 June 25, state the following on the Procurement Committee of the National Gallery of Iceland:

II. Chapter. The National Gallery of Iceland

Article 5. Procurement Committee

A three member Procurement Committee operates on behalf of the National Gallery of Iceland, appointed by the Minister for a term of three years. The Committee is comprised of the Museum Director, one member appointed by Samband íslenskra myndlistarmanna (The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists)  and one without nomination. The Minister shall nominate a chairman from the committee's members.

The Procurement Committee governs the purchase of works of art. It may authorize the Director to allocate up to 20% of the funds allocated each year for artwork procurement for domestic artwork.

The Procurement Department reviews gifts offered to the National Gallery of Iceland and assesses whether they should be accepted. A gift must be accompanied by a gift certificate. The Museum may never sell, or otherwise dispose of, artwork that has been received as a gift, without the prior consent of the donor.

The selling of artwork owned by the National Gallery of Iceland is permitted with the approval of the Procurement Committee, in order to buy other work by the same artist, which is considered important for the Museum's collection.
