Millefleurs

At the heart of Pétursson’s art lies the flora of Iceland and Arctic nature. Through his exploration of the volcanic landscape and the resilient flowers of the tundra, the artist opens up an entire universe. His works range from meticulously realistic depictions of plants to patterned or abstract compositions, where layered paint creates relief-like surfaces. Pétursson’s paintings are both timely and timeless, engaging with contemporary ecological and posthumanist concerns while drawing on the traditions of abstraction, formalism, and conceptual art.. The exhibition a collaboration between the National Gallery and the Turku Art Museum in Finland. Curated by Selina Kiiskinenm, Kari Immonen and Pari Stave.
