Kristján H. Magnússon – The Forgotten Artist has been nominated for the Hagþenkir Recognition Award 2025

Kristján H. Magnússon – The Forgotten Artist is among the ten publications nominated for the Hagþenkir Recognition Award for the 2025 publishing year.

The announcement states: “A carefully crafted and impressive work about an artist who has received limited attention. The book is based on extensive research into Kristján’s works and life.”

The editor and author of this comprehensive book on the life and work of Kristján H. Magnússon is Einar Falur Ingólfsson. In addition, Guðmundur Oddur Magnússon and Dagný Heiðdal contributed essays to the volume. The relatives of Klara Helgadóttir, Kristján’s wife, along with the couple’s descendants, supported the publication in collaboration with the National Gallery of Iceland.

In spring 2025, a retrospective exhibition of the works of Kristján H. Magnússon was held at the National Gallery of Iceland, focusing on the works of this multifaceted artist who died at only 24 years of age in 1937, after a short but intriguing career.

The book is available in the National Gallery of Iceland’s museum shops and in the online store.
