Gift Wrap as Artwork ⇆ Artwork as Gift Wrap
There is something truly wonderful about wrapping gifts in beautiful art. The National Gallery of Iceland and Litróf Printing House present a unique collaboration that brings together art and paper in a festive gift-wrap collection featuring works by Guðmunda Andrésdóttir (1922–2002) and Eyborg Guðmundsdóttir (1924–1977). The National Gallery’s collection holds remarkable works by these artists, which now find new life as distinctive gift wrap. ✨
Eyborg’s work was always grounded in basic forms—circle, square, line—examined through their internal relationships and their ability to engage the eye. Throughout her career, she tirelessly explored the possibilities of abstract art and geometry, contributing more than any other Icelandic artist to the development of hard-edge painting.
Guðmunda’s artistic vision was rooted in decisive formalism, and she was among the Icelandic artists who paved the way for abstract art, remaining faithful to the non-figurative throughout her career.
We celebrate this beautiful edition on Sunday, 23 November, from 16:00 to 18:00 with a festive presentation at the National Gallery of Iceland. 🥂
