2PM—3PM
Pari Stave from the National Gallery of Iceland and Sunna Ástþórsdóttir from the Reykjavík Art Museum will lead a guided tour of the exhibition Steina: Playback.
The tour will move between both museums, and the exhibition will be viewed in its entirety. The guided tour begins at the National Gallery of Iceland on Fríkirkjuvegur at 2PM and ends at the Reykjavík Art Museum’s Hafnarhús.
The exhibition is a collaboration between The National Gallery of Iceland and the Reykjavík Art Museum presenting the works of visual artist Steina Vasulka. It will open simultaneously in both museums, Iceland's two main art museums. Steina is internationally recognised as a leading pioneer in video and new media art and is a major influence on contemporary art in Iceland. Her work uniquely connects video art, music, and technology in ways that are both highly inventive and playful. The exhibition is the first major retrospective of Steina's work in Iceland. It will span the entire scope of her artistic career, tracing the development of Steina’s ideas and technological innovations over several decades from early experiments in documentary video work to her most recent installations from the early 2000s.
Museum entrance fees apply.
