Glacier Mouse – Are You a Mouse or a Plant?
Join us for a fun and creative art workshop with Krakkaklúbburinn Krummi at the House of Collections on Hverfisgata this Saturday from 14:00 to 16:00.
Together, we'll step into an ice cave, explore glaciers of all shapes and sizes, and then craft our very own Glacier Mouse using stones, wool, and thread. In Icelandic a Glacier Mouse is a rounded small stone on a glacier that is completely covered in moss.

Join us for an engaging discussion as Ragnar Kjartansson speaks with Hildigunnur Birgisdóttir about her exhibition, That’s a Very Large Number – A Commerzbau. Originally Iceland’s official contribution to the 2024 Venice Biennale, the exhibition is now on view at the National Gallery of Iceland.
Hildigunnur is renowned for her meticulous focus on the overlooked and the everyday, offering critique of global production and distribution systems—as well as the peculiar lifecycle of consumer goods. Her work brings attention to small, disposable objects that typically accompany consumer culture: packaging, price tags, labels, and display structures. By repositioning these items in new contexts, she challenges their perceived value and transforms their meaning entirely.

Finnur Jónsson’s Jewelry – Back in Stock!
We’re excited to announce that Finnur Jónsson’s jewelry is once again available for purchase at the National Gallery of Iceland’s museum shop and online store!
Finnur Jónsson (1892–1993) was a pioneer of Icelandic visual arts, shaping the country’s artistic landscape from the early 20th century. In honor of the centennial of the National Gallery of Iceland, Finnur and his wife, Guðný Elísdóttir, generously donated over 800 of his works to the museum in 1985. Among the collection were exquisite silver pieces, along with the tools and casting molds used in his gold and silversmithing. Among them was a pendant depicting a fisherman rowing a boat and a bracelet featuring the four land spirits of Iceland.
To mark the 100th anniversary of the Icelandic Goldsmiths’ Association in 2024, the National Gallery of Iceland commissioned silversmith Óttar Gauti Guðmundsson to faithfully recreate these stunning designs.
