Quality Time – The Green Land

Ingibjörg Jóhannsdóttir, Director of the National Gallery of Iceland, warmly welcomes guests to Quality Time on Wednesday, September 17th at 14:00 at the museum on Fríkirkjuvegur, where she will guide visitors through the work The Green Land.

The work, created in 2021, is a 34-minute video installation by Inuk Silis Høegh. Inuk was born in Qaqortoq, South Greenland, in 1972 and is a filmmaker and visual artist who often works at the intersection of these art forms.
The film is accompanied by a soundscape composed by Danish sound artist Jacob Kirkegaard (b. 1975), whose works explore the music found in natural sounds that he captures from the sea, ice, volcanoes, and the atmosphere.

Quality Time events are designed for people in their prime. They consist of tailored guided tours and conversations with museum experts about visual art, current exhibitions, and museum activities. Coffee is always served during Quality Time events at the National Gallery of Iceland.

The tour will be conducted in Icelandic.

Admission fee to the museum applies.

Announcement – National Gallery of Iceland 2025
Final Exhibition Weekend
The Green Land

Time is running out to see The Green Land by Inuk Silis Høegh at the National Gallery of Iceland.
The last day of the exhibition is Sunday, September 21st.

The Green Land is a 34-minute visual meditation on a landscape that is at once pristine and unstable due to human intervention and climate change.
The work is shown in a continuous loop and revolves around the four elements – fire, earth, water, and air – which appear as elusive, green presences in ephemeral landscape performances.

Playing with Green Smoke

We warmly welcome you to a creative workshop with the Krummi Kids’ Club on Saturday between 14:00 and 16:00 at the National Gallery of Iceland.

Together, we will explore the color green in Inuk Silis Høegh’s video work featured in the exhibition The Green Land and create our own landscape images.
In the artwork, the color green represents the four elements: fire, earth, water, and air. It appears as green smoke, twisting and winding its way through the landscape like a green serpent.

Curator's Tour
The Green Land

Curator Pari Stave will discuss The Green Land by Inuk Silis Høegh. Created in 2021, the work is a 34-minute video installation accompanied by a soundscape by Danish sound artist Jacob Kirkegaard.

The Green Land was filmed in and around Nuuk and Maniitsoq in Greenland. It is a visual meditation on a landscape that is both pristine and unstable, shaped by human intervention and climate change.
The work is shown in a continuous loop and revolves around the four elements – fire, earth, water, and air – which appear as mysterious, green presences in ephemeral landscape performances. In this way, the elements acquire a spiritual dimension. The artist has described the green color as winding its way through the landscape like a green serpent.

The tour will be conducted in English.

Admission fee to the museum applies.

To mark the 100th anniversary of Muggur (Guðmundur Thorsteinsson, b. 1891 – d. 1924), the National Gallery of Iceland commissioned the design of an embroidery kit featuring details from the artwork Adam and Eve in Paradise.

This gives people the opportunity to recreate one of the final works by one of the nation’s most beloved artists.
