Event 16 October 2025 – The House of Collections
Sequences XII
Performance Lecture

Join a performance lecture by Geirþrúður Finnbogadóttir Hjörvar at The House or collections during Sequences XII.

Geirþrúður Finnbogadóttir Hjörvar (b. 1977, Reykjavík, Iceland) works with sculpture, text, video, and critical philosophy. Heimir is a performative lecture that intertwines the history of insurance supervision in Iceland, reinsurance—referencing the Icelandic Reinsurance Company—the development of individual insurance firms and interest groups, and the visual language of logos, advertisements, and rebranding efforts, both domestically and internationally.

The narrative unfolds like an online search, where one thing leads to another, and the audience follows a flow of visual material found on the internet. Corporate symbols, slogans, and visual identities are examined with a critical and witty eye. By exposing the internal contradictions in the language and imagery of the financial and insurance sectors, the work sheds light on the regulatory framework as both an aesthetic and political phenomenon.

Event 18 October 2025 – National Gallery of Iceland
Krummi Kids’ Club
Art Workshop: Playing with Space and Perception

We warmly welcome you to a fun and creative art workshop hosted by Krummi Kids’ Club at the National Gallery of Iceland on Saturday from 14:00 to 16:00.

In this workshop, we’ll explore how art and technology can transform the way we experience space — and then experiment with seeing the world in a new way ourselves.
What if walls were upside down, windows on the floor, and our vision like looking through a tube? We’ll create our own “vision masks” using colored transparent sheets that change how we perceive our surroundings. Then we’ll make artworks imagining what space might look like if we saw it as a machine—or in a dream.

Free admission for the whole family!

Event 18 October 2025 – The House of Collections
Sequences Performance:
The Nýló Choir and Adam Buffington

You are warmly invited to a performance presented by Sequences on Saturday from 14:00 to 16:00 at The House of Collections.

In the work Threshold, then Eraser by composer Adam Buffington, eerie sounds and prolonged silences that mirror glacial movements are explored to illuminate the underlying anxiety of our contemporary era. This tension takes on a physical form through the performance of Gígja Jónsdóttir and Tristan Elísabet Birta, accompanied by the misty, ethereal voices of the Nýló Choir.

Event 19 October 2025 – The House of Collections
Sequences Performance:
Tacet – Extrinsic

You are warmly invited to Tacet – Extrinsic by Hildur Elísa Jónsdóttir & Elja, taking place at The House of Collections on Sunday, 19 October, from 15:00 to 16:00.

In the project Tacet: Extrinsic, Hildur Elísa explores the concept of silence—both as sound and as pause—collaborating with a string quartet to create a concert that challenges traditional listening habits. By weaving carefully timed pauses into the musical flow, the performance invites the audience to reconsider the boundaries between sound and silence, presence and absence, emphasizing the expressive power of quietness as an inseparable part of the musical experience.

Museum Shop 2025 – National Gallery of Iceland

Treasures from the Museum Shop
National Gallery of Iceland

The National Gallery of Iceland’s museum shop is filled with a wide selection of high-quality gifts, including greeting cards, jewelry, posters, books, and much more.

Among the many treasures is our Solon Islandus Collection.

Sölvi Helgason (1820–1895), also known as Sólon Íslandus, lived during a time of strict social constraints in Iceland. He cared little for these conventions, traveling the country as a self-taught artist.

His works are characterized by intricate floral patterns and are today considered a valuable part of Icelandic art history and cultural heritage
