Colloquium on YouTube:
Instructions and Iterations: Archiving Steina's Work
The landmark exhibition Steina: Playback provided a valuable opportunity to bring together artists, collectors, conservators, and curators working with time-based media to discuss the preservation of Steina’s pioneering artistic practice.
The Vasulka Room and the Vasulka Foundation organized a symposium, in collaboration with Vasulka Kitchen Brno, focusing on the complex technical challenges involved in preserving time-based art and on how best to honor Steina’s artistic legacy. Participants examined issues related to documentation and the history of installations, addressing the inherent instability and ongoing transformations that characterize time-based media.
A recording of the colloquium is available to watch on the National Gallery of Iceland’s YouTube channel below. The event was organized by the Vasulka Foundation and the Vasulka Room at the National Gallery of Iceland, with support from Vasulka Kitchen Brno.
