Program of the week

Enjoy free admission this week!


We are currently installing a new exhibition at the National Gallery of Iceland, and the galleries will be closed during this time. However, the museum shop and Kaktus Espresso Bar will remain open. Admission to both National Gallery of Iceland locations is free throughout this week. We apologize for any inconvenience and invite guests to visit our Hverfisgata location, where they can explore the treasures of Icelandic art at the National Gallery's House of Collections.

Long Thursday | House of Collections

Drawing in the museum
A drawing workshop for adults inspired by the works of art in the exhibition at The House of Collection on Hverfisgata.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own drawing tools and sketchbooks, but materials will also be available on location. The workshop is suitable for all skill levels.

Krummi Kids' Club - Hues of blues

We warmly welcome you to a fun art workshop at the Krummi Kids' Club this coming Saturday at the House of Collections.

Workshop where we collect the color blue in various artworks found within The House of Collections. What differentiates the hue of the sea from the sky? What feelings do we associate with blue?

The Svavar Guðnason and Ásta Eiriksdóttir Fund

The Svavar Guðnason and Ásta Eiriksdóttir fund announces an open call. According to the foundation’s charter, grants are to be awarded to promising young artists. To date, 20 artists have received funding since the grants were inaugurated in 1995. In this round, ISK 1 million will be awarded to one or more beneficiaries.  Artists interested in making an application should submit the following information to umsokn@listasafn.is; name and social security number of the applicant, home address, email address and telephone number. Detailed information should be provided, including academic background, as well as a short essay about the applicant’s artistic practice, together with a selection of photographs of works. Application must be submitted before October 26th. The selection committee reviews and evaluate submitted applications, and grants will be awarded on Svavar Guðnason's birthday, November 18.
