Looking Inward, Looking Outward: 140 years of the National Gallery of Iceland
We are thrilled about the upcoming opening next Saturday at 2 pm. The National Gallery of Iceland will unveil the new exhibition titled Looking Inward, Looking Outward: 140 years of the National Gallery of Iceland. This exhibition celebrates the gallery's 140th anniversary, with works from the founding of the Museum until today. Starting from its early collection of Nordic artists, it moves through the pioneering post-war era and the rise of avant-garde movements. The exhibition also features new pieces, showcasing how contemporary artists are continuously addressing new subjects and developments in society.
We can’t wait to see you there!

New Research Program in Art and Art History
A groundbreaking research program in art and art history, launched by the Iceland University of the Arts, the University of Iceland’s School of Humanities, and the National Gallery of Iceland, has received a significant two-year development grant.
The National Gallery extends a warm welcome to Berglind Jóna Hlynsdóttir and Sigríður Regína Sigurþórsdóttir, graduate students who will be working within the Vasulka Chamber archive for the next two years. Their research will focus on time-based media, including works from the National Gallery's collection, as well as the Vasulka Chamber archive that is preserved in the museum's research library. The two newly-created positions fall under the definitions of studies at the doctoral level -- one in artistic practice and the other in art history.
