Artist Talk & Reception – The Green Land by Inuk Silis Høegh

Join us for an artist talk and reception marking the Icelandic premiere of The Green Land by Greenlandic artist and filmmaker Inuk Silis Høegh, on Friday, July 4, 2025, at 5:00 PM at the National Gallery of Iceland.

The Green Land (2021) is a 34-minute video installation in the spirit of land art—a profound meditation on Greenland’s landscape in a time of climate change and increasing global political shifts. Filmed in and around Nuuk and Maniitsoq, the work interweaves the classical elements—earth, air, fire, and water—into the natural environment using ephemeral, eco-conscious interventions. A mysterious green figure appears throughout the montage, reflecting transformation, identity, and the resilience of Greenland.

Rare Earth: A conversation with Greenlandic artist Inuk Silis Høegh and Danish artist Jacob Kirkegaard

Pari Stave, curator at the National Gallery of Iceland, will lead a conversation with Inuk Silis Høegh and Jacob Kirkegaard, offering insight into their creative processes, the making of the film, and Greenland’s unique geological and political context.

We look forward to welcoming you, your friends, and colleagues to this special event.

The soundscape, composed by Danish sound artist Jacob Kirkegaard, blends audio recordings from ocean, ice, volcanic earth, and atmosphere, enhancing the sensory experience of the work.

The Green Land (2021) is a visual contemplation of a landscape both untouched and unstable, shaped by human intervention and climate change. Presented in a continuous loop, the work revolves around the four natural elements—fire, earth, water, and air—manifested as an elusive green presence in site-specific landscape performances. The 34-minute film was shot in and around Nuuk and Maniitsoq, Greenland.

The accompanying soundtrack by Jacob Kirkegaard explores the music found in natural sounds, which he captures from the sea, ice, volcanoes, and the air.
