CARNEGIE ART AWARD 2010

An exhibition of The Carnegie Art Award is among the largest art prizes in the world. This year the main award,a prize of one million Swedish crowns, was awarded to the Icelandic artist Kristján Guđmundsson. His works will be exhibithed with works by twenty two other selected Nordic artists at The National Gallery of Iceland from Saturday 9th 2010 at 11 am.

KRISTJÁN GUĐMUNDSSON RECEIVES THE CARNEGIE PRIZE

One of the world's biggest art prizes is awarded Kristján Gudmundsson for his exceptional sound-absorbing paintings.

HM Queen Margrethe will award Gudmundsson with the prize of SEK 1 million in a ceremony at Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen on 17 September 2009.


A unanimous jury has awarded the Icelandic artist Kristján Gudmundsson (born 1941) first prize of SEK 1,000,000 for his exceptional sound-absorbing paintings in which he characteristically combines materials and concept into an artwork filled with content. Works by Guđmundsson are now on display in rooms 1 and 3 at the National Gallery of Iceland.

HM Queen Margrethe will award the prizes at an official ceremony at Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen on 17 September 2009. This will also see the opening of the travelling exhibition, comprising the 23 Nordic artists in the Carnegie Art Award 2010 that the jury handpicked from a total of 148 nominees. The exhibition will tour between the Nordic capitals, London, Beijing and Nice over an 18-month period.  The exhibition will open in the National Gallery of Iceland January 9th and stay until February 28th 2010. Egill Sćbjörnsson is also a participant in the exhibition.

ICELANDIC ART TODAY
Icelandic Art Today is the first book of its kind to present in English a wide array of Icelandic contemporary artists born after 1950. Thirteen writers join hands in writing about 50 artists who have been prominent during the past decade or longer. The book is 340 pages and well illustrated. Editors are Christian Schoen and Halldór Björn Runólfsson.
