Krummi Kids' Club - Let’s Look Up
Mirrors appear in this creative workshop where we transform the forms observed in the museum’s architecture into works of art. We’ll examine the man-made elements of our environment that we tend to see as ordinary, the building that houses us, and the architecture of our museum.
Save the Date!
"Looking Inward, Looking Outward: 140 years of the National Gallery of Iceland" opens on October 12!
Preparations are in full swing for the upcoming exhibition, Looking Inward, Looking Outward: 140 years of the National Gallery of Iceland. This exhibition marks the gallery’s 140th anniversary and will feature nearly 200 works from close to 100 artists.
New artworks in all shapes and sizes are being added to the exhibition daily — some larger than others. One such piece is Scutum / Shield by Rósa Gísladóttir, which only just made it through the doors!
New Publication
To mark the National Gallery’s 140th anniversary a special commemorative publication will be released. This book serves as a companion to the exhibition, featuring essays by various scholars, including former directors of the National Gallery, each offering their unique interpretation of 140 works from the museum’s collection.
This is the third major publication from the National Gallery, focusing on key milestones in Icelandic art history, particularly those shaped by the establishment of the National Gallery. The works selected for the book aim to represent the gallery's collection history as comprehensively as possible, shedding light on the gallery’s pivotal role in the evolution of Icelandic art.
The book, a beautifully crafted 295-page volume, will be available from October 12th at the museum shop and online.
